Agony in the Garden: Mysteries of the Rosary Series (Part 2)

Agony in the Garden Mysteries of the Rosary Series (Part 2)

Whenever we think of the passion of Christ, our minds jump straight into the pain of the heavy wood of the Cross. Yet the deepest mental and emotional pain happened in the quiet dark of an olive grove. In Gethsemane, Jesus felt completely isolated and abandoned by his closest friends, who were sleeping.

Today, Catholic tradition teaches us that we are not helpless and should never stand still in time. Through the consoling prayer with a rosary made from flowers, we can stay spiritually awake to comfort the Sacred Heart. It is one of the most powerful responses of love in our lives. We can wipe away the bloody sweat of Christ metaphorically. All we have to do is promise Him our presence when the entire world turns its back on us.

What is the Agony in the Garden?

The Agony in the Garden begins with the solemn transition from the Last Supper into the physical suffering of Jesus’s Passion. He was sweating blood under the weight of human sins back then. He knelt among the ancient olive trees and prayed the following:

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me, yet not my will, but yours be done.” (Luke 22:42)

The Gospel of Luke notes that His sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground. In today’s medical condition, it is known as hematidrosis, which occurs due to extreme emotional stress and deep grief.

How to Do the First Sorrowful Mystery Prayer?

The sorrowful mysteries are traditionally prayed on Tuesdays and Fridays throughout the year. We also perform them on the Sundays of Lent. Follow these steps to offer a prayer of consolation for the Agony in the Garden:

Step 1: Announce the Mystery

Begin the decade by stating aloud the mystery. You can also say the same words silently in your heart, such as “The First Sorrowful Mystery: The Agony in the Garden.”

Step 2: Set Your Intention (The Spiritual Fruit)

Take a brief moment of silence. Ask for the spiritual fruit of this mystery: True Repentance for Sins. Offer this decade to comfort the sorrowful heart of Jesus.

Step 3: Pray the Our Father

Take the single and large bead of the floral rosary into the decade. Pray the Our Father (Our Father, who art in heaven…”).

Step 4: Pray Ten Hail Marys While Meditating

On the following ten small beads, pray one Hail Mary on each bead. As you say this prayer, keep your mind focused on the image of Jesus kneeling amongst the olive trees. There, he is sweating blood out of love for you.

Step 5: Pray the Glory Be

After completing the tenth Hail Mary, pray the Glory be (“Glory be to the Father, and to the Son…”) to conclude the decade.

Step 6: End with the Fatima Prayer

After following the previous step, pray the Fatima prayer to ask for Christ’s forgiveness.

O My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, take all souls to Heaven, and help especially those most in need of Your mercy.”

FAQs

  • Can I mail flowers to Floral Rosary if I live outside their main areas of focus?

Yes, you can. Indeed, our primary shipping and regional customer service are heavily in the Northeast and the Midwest. We also accept orders for roses made into rosary beads and other flowers from clients across the country via secure mail.

  • Why does the Agony in the Garden focus on “true repentance”?

It is because of the sheer weight of human sin that Christ experienced intense sorrow, and bloody sweat occurred in Gethsemane. When we meditate on His grief, we are turning away from sin out of love for Him.

  • How long does it take to create a custom flower-petal rosary?

It typically takes us around 12-14 weeks to make your own customized floral rosary. We dry the flowers, preserve them, and cast fine-quality beads that you can pass down to your future generations.
